What is SIP Trunking?
SIP Trunking is a service that permits
businesses that have a PBX installed to use Voice-over-IP (VoIP)
even to outside the enterprise network by using the same connection
as the Internet connection.
A SIP Trunk is a service offered by an ITSP to
use SIP to setup communications between an enterprise PBX and the
ITSP.
Main component which includes deploying SIP
trunks: a PBX with a SIP-enabled trunk side, an enterprise edge
device understanding SIP and an Internet telephony or SIP Trunking
service provider.
The SIP trunk is offered by an ITSP (Internet
Telephony Service Provider). A single trunk includes multiple voice
sessions.

Advantages of SIP trunk over non-SIP trunk
SIP trunk provides huge cost savings. They
eliminate the need to purchase costly BRIs, PRIs or PSTN gateways.
It opens a new scope of establishing other
types of real time communications beyond LAN.
There are more specific Quality of Service (QoS)
measures to ensure better and calculated voice quality.
SIP trunks can be more reliable than the
traditional PSTN as a number of failover solutions can be
implemented.
Unlike in traditional telephony, where bundles
of physical wires were once delivered from the service provider to a
business, a SIP trunk allows a company to replace these traditional
fixed PSTN lines with PSTN connectivity via a SIP Trunking service.
As many organizations are already using VOIP,
it’s not too much difficult to implement SIP Trunking with other
VOIP enabled organizations.
No need to invest in PSTN gateways and
additional line cards as you grow.
Calls to anywhere in globe at the local call
rate.
Redundancy with multiple service providers and
links.
