Federation between Microsoft LCS\OCS and IBM Sametime (08-Nov-08) |
Co-existence of
IBM Sametime and Microsoft LCS\OCS:
By default Sametime
and LCS\OCS don’t work together. It means a Microsoft office Communicator (MOC)
user can’t communicate with the Sametime user. You need to use a third party solution
to enable the same.
There are two tools
(what I know!) to enable the co-existence of Sametime and LCS\OCS. Convergence Session
Manager (CSM) from Convergence and Instant Buddy list Migrator from
Instant technologies.
Convergence Session
Manager (CSM) acts as an intermediate device between the LCS\OCS and Sametime
setup.
Instant Buddy
List Migrator’s integration with Session Manager from Convergence enables Sametime
users and LCS/OCS users to belong to single, unified buddy lists so they can communicate
seamlessly across platforms.
Mostly you would use the internetworking of LCS\OCS and Sametime due to following
two reasons:
-
If a company
with Sametime setup wants to federate with a company having LCS\OCS setup
-
If a company
having Sametime setup wants to migrate to LCS\OCS setup. In this case the company
needs to afford the co-existence period.

See
how to migrate contact list from Sametime to LCS\OCS.
