What is Remote Call Control (RCC) (22-Dec-08)

About Remote Call Control

Remote Call Control often referred as RCC is a way to let Microsoft Office Communicator ability to control your PBX phone.

A remote call control user doesn’t always need to type the number to make a call.

An RCC user’s communicator presence reflects the fact that the person is on a call.

RCC had been introduced by Microsoft with Live communications server 2005 sp1 with Microsoft office communicator 2005.

It is supported by Office Communications server 2007 with Office Communicator 2007.

RCC is not supported by Office Communications Server 2007 with Microsoft Office communicator Phone Edition.

The user can control the PBX or IP PBX phone by using office communicator GUI mode.

If LCS or OCS setup is accordingly, a remote user sitting on internet can control his PBX or IP PBX phone (Primarily used to deflect the incoming call to any other number).

An RCC enabled user can only control the PBX or IP PBX phone through MOC but can’t use Office Communicator to talk to the caller. The media signal is not handled by LCS or OCS server. It only handles the SIP traffic to be able to let MOC know about incoming call alert.

Features of RCC?

An RCC enabled user gets following features:

-  Make call: The RCC enabled user can make call using Office Communicator. That’s easier than making call using PBX or IP PBX phone device.

-  Receive call: The RCC enabled user can receive call using MOC. Remember, the user can’t talk through MOC. The RCC enabled user can accept the call through MOC and PBX or IP PBX phone will go off-hook and the speaker phone capabilities will be activated on the PBX phone.

-  Caller Identification: MOC can try to resolve the calling party number to a more user friendly manner. (See what is RNL)

-  Call waiting: The RCC enabled user gets pop up saying the call is waiting.

-  Call hold and retrieve.

-  Alternate call: The RCC enabled user can handle multiple calls at a time. Every call is represented by a different communication window. The user can place any communication on hold during the conversation period.

-  Single step transfer: The RCC enabled user can transfer the call by clicking on the transfer button in MOC.

-  Consultative transfer: The RCC enabled user can place existing call on hold and make a quick call to another user, and can again connect with the former call.

-   Forward to another telephone number
