What is Edge Server?

We need to deploy Edge Server(s), if we need to communicate using office communications Server 2007 with external users (users from outside network).
Edge server is recommended to be placed in the perimeter or DMZ network so that users outside your organization’s firewall are authorized before they obtain access to your Office Communications Server deployment.
